Meiji Shrine – Serenity in the Heart of Tokyo 

Tucked away in the forested heart of Shibuya, the Meiji Shrine feels like a peaceful world of its own—far removed from the neon buzz of central Tokyo. Dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, this Shinto shrine is one of the city’s most sacred spaces. 

You’ll begin your visit by walking through towering torii gates, and follow a gravel path flanked by tall cedar trees. The calm, earthy atmosphere feels instantly grounding. At the main shrine complex, you’ll see visitors offering prayers, writing wishes on wooden ema plaques, and purifying their hands with water. 

If you’re lucky, you might witness a traditional Shinto wedding ceremony, complete with white robes and ancient rituals. 

The adjacent Yoyogi Park offers a more casual vibe, but inside Meiji Shrine, it’s all about respect, reflection, and quiet beauty. Come for a pause, stay for the peace.
