Checkpoint Charlie: The Cold War's most dangerous spot in Berlin 

It's easy to feel the weight of history when you stand at Checkpoint Charlie. It used to be a major crossing point where people from East and West Berlin could meet. Now, this small but important spot shows how divided the city once was and how far it has come. 

There are historical signs, photos, a replica of the guardhouse, and people on the street dressed as Cold War troops. The Wall Museum, which is nearby, tells more dramatic stories about escape and espionage during the time of the Berlin Wall. 

Touristy, yes—but also important. Anyone who wants to understand Berlin's soul should spend at least a few minutes here. It helps put the city's complicated past into perspective.
